A Word A Week – Gauche

This week’s word is
Gauche

It has negative meaning. It means somebody tactless, awkward, not skillfull.

It is actually derived from a French word that means left. Now this is interesting. In earlier days, unlike today, left handed were considered as unlucky and so were forced to use right hand. As we all know it is not on luck but our brain that decides whether we are righty or lefty. But because the left handed people were forced to do everything with right hand, it went against there natural charactereistics and they couldn’t perform well. And so they became someone with less skills. 😦
And so goes the word! 🙂
